Convaid and R82 Seating & Mobility Expert Missy Ball to Present Part 3 of Cerebral Palsy Webinar Series on November 17, 2016

tegan-w-muralThe final installment of Convaid’s three-part Cerebral Palsy webinar series, The Use of Home Equipment, will be held on November 17, 2016. This webinar will briefly review cerebral palsy and classification before addressing equipment needs in the home. Equipment to address positioning for feeding, fine motor activities such as brushing teeth, performing homework or social play will be explored. Hygiene needs, toileting and bathing, will be discussed and equipment options presented with emphasis on the Convaid and R82 products.  Click here to register. Cerebral Palsy is the most common motor disability in childhood. Population-based studies from around the world report prevalence estimates range from 1.5 to more than 4 per 1,000 live births. Convaid and R82 products are often prescribed for children living with Cerebral Palsy.   

Presenter K. Missy Ball, MT, PT, ATP and certified pediatric NDT is the former Acting Director of the Physical Therapy Department of Children’s Hospital in New Orleans, where she co-directed the hospital’s seating program for 10-years. She has also worked with United Cerebral Palsy Center’s Seating Clinic.

Part 1, Cerebral Palsy Series:  Seating and Mobility

This webinar focuses on defining cerebral palsy, causes, risks factors, classification and description of the different types, as well as specific seating & mobility issues.  Classification is based on type, bodily involvement and severity.  The Gross Motor Functional Classification Scale is discussed as a reference for Cerebral Palsy severity and equipment options. Specific clinical manifestations found in each type of cerebral palsy are explored and seating and mobility options to address these conditions are presented in the context of Convaid and R82 products. Part 2, Cerebral Palsy Series:  Standing and Walking 

In this webinar, cerebral palsy definition and classification are briefly reviewed, followed by an outline of the use of standers and walkers for specific GMFCS levels. The different types of standers and benefits of standing are also explored. Neuroscience research addressing the positives of independent mobility is presented as well as individual characteristics of walkers/gait trainers to assist in this endeavor.
